"Seolhwa" means folktale. Every yokai fights exactly the way its original story says — so learning the folklore is literally learning the game. Tap any yokai to read its weakness and its next move before you commit a turn.

The yokai rules that kill you

Each monster is a mechanic drawn from a real folktale — these are the ones that end runs.

YokaiThe rule (from the folktale)
Jeoseung SajaThe grim reaper calls your name once per turn while it can see you — on the third call, you die. Setting out an Offering Table stops it.
ImugiThe thousand-year serpent grows the longer the fight runs — stall and it becomes a dragon, breathes, and floods the entire floor.
Jihaguk DaejeokThe underground bandit hid his life in a jar — he can't die until you find and break it.
Rat KingLike the rat that ate a stranger's nail clippings, it takes on your face. Freeing the cat caught in a trap breaks the disguise.
Agi Jangsu UturiThe hidden-winged strongman appears when the rock splits at the Jirisan floor's end — at half health the wings come out and it hit-and-runs you.
Funeral processionCross its path and you choose: step aside and bow, or stand in the way — the two choices end very differently.

Your build: species, class, god, spells

  1. 1
    14 species × 12 classes

Bear Folk, Serpent, Dokkaebi, Dol Hareubang, Crow and more, crossed with Warrior, Assassin, Taoist, Shaman, Geomancer and others — the combination space is the build game.

  2. 2
    Serve one of 8 gods

Sanshin, the Dragon King, Chilseong, Samsin Halmi, Princess Bari, Jowang, the Dokkaebi Chief, Mago Halmi — each grants power with a taboo attached. Break the taboo, get the wrath.

  3. 3
    37 spells, one per level

Spells come as cards drawn per level — chain them in the wood → fire → earth → underworld → water order and they build on each other. Soak the floor with Tidal Wave, then Lightning spreads the shock; fire bursts on poison.

  4. 4
    Read before you swing

All 155 yokai have an info window — resistances, weaknesses, and a telegraph of next turn's move. Reading one move ahead is the whole skill ceiling.

What a run looks like

Redrawing dungeon

Permadeath is real — die once and you're back at the start, with a freshly generated layout every entry.

Folktale floors

A silver mine haunted by goblin fire, a royal tomb with already-open coffins, a fog-bound marsh, a gumiho's den — then the underworld opens if you've gathered enough orbs.

7 branch dungeons

Side dungeons peel off the main descent, each built around a specific tale.

The codex

Every yokai you meet is logged with the original folktale it came from — the collection is half the appeal for folklore fans.

If you loved Dungeon Crawl: the dev's own pitch is a classic roguelike carved from Korean folklore — turn-based, one-handed on mobile, 40-minute to 2-hour runs. Version 2.x already rebuilt the eight gods and added nets, caltrops and jangseung posts.

FAQ
