Rust Minecraft — Horizon
"Minecraft in Rust" is Horizon: an open-source, from-scratch rewrite of Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 in the Rust language — no Java runtime, native performance, same multiplayer. Also called Minecraft Rust Edition or Minecraft Horizon.
playhorizon.dev
Horizon is not an official Mojang product — it's a community engine that reimplements Minecraft Java Edition in Rust and contains no Minecraft code. You need a licensed Minecraft Java account to play on authenticated servers, and game assets are downloaded from Mojang's own servers for your account.
Install and first launch
- 1Download the Horizon launcher
From playhorizon.dev — builds for Windows x64, macOS (Apple Silicon; Intel from the next Nightly) and Linux x86-64.
- 2Let it prepare the game files
An existing Minecraft install (official launcher, Prism, MultiMC) is reused; without one, Play downloads the 26.3 resources from Mojang for your account.
- 3Sign in and play
Single player works offline after setup; Java multiplayer (including big servers) is supported — server-side anticheat compatibility varies per server.

FAQ
Is "rust minecraft" the same as Minecraft Rust Edition?
Yes — Rust Minecraft, Minecraft Rust Edition and Minecraft Horizon all refer to the Horizon project: Minecraft Java Edition rewritten in Rust. (Unrelated to the survival game Rust — that's a different title.)
Is Horizon free?
The engine and launcher are free and open source. You still need a paid Minecraft Java account to download the game resources and join authenticated servers.
Can I use my existing mods?
Java mods (Fabric/Forge) don't run — Horizon uses its own native .hmod mod packages instead.
Does it work on Hypixel and other servers?
Java multiplayer works — players have reached the Hypixel arcade lobby on the Android port. Anticheat behavior on specific servers isn't guaranteed, so test before relying on it competitively.
