Pokemon Monomyth - The Athanto Region ROM Hack
Pokemon Monomyth is a complete, original-adventure ROM hack built on Pokemon Emerald - more than six years in the making, and released October 30, 2026. It drops you into the untamed Athanto region with an entirely new story.
What's in the game
The Athanto region
A brand new region of treacherous, untamed wilds with an original story - finding civilization again before sunset isn't always guaranteed. Sprawling environments, dozens of sidequests, many secrets.
Pokemon roster
Over 360 brand new and returning Pokemon with new moves, abilities and animations, plus thousands of wild coat variations.
Content
200+ original soundtrack tracks, Contest Halls, Trainer Hill, Battle Frontier, and asynchronous multiplayer features with Link Cable trading.
How to download and play
Like all ROM hacks, Monomyth is distributed as a patch, not a ROM - you apply it to your own legally-obtained Emerald copy.
- 1Get the patch
Download it from the official site (monomyth.jp/download) - the patcher there can also apply it directly in the browser.
- 2Apply it to a clean Emerald ROM
You need your own legitimately dumped copy of Pokemon Emerald. Select the ROM and the patch, and the tool produces the Monomyth .gba file.
- 3Play on a GBA emulator
mGBA is the recommended emulator (also required for link trading). Keep the .sav file in the same folder as the .gba so saves are found.
Trading with friends (Celio Link)
Monomyth supports emulator-to-emulator link trades over the internet through the Celio Link site and a special mGBA build. The flow: download the client script for your OS (Windows, macOS, Linux), load it in mGBA via Tools → Scripting, connect to the Celio Link page, then share a session ID with your friend and trade as if you were on a real link cable.
FAQ
Is Pokemon Monomyth finished?
Yes - it released as a complete hack with a full story and post-game facilities like the Battle Frontier.
What do I need to play it?
A clean Pokemon Emerald ROM you dumped yourself, the free patch from the official site, and a GBA emulator such as mGBA.
Is it a difficulty hack?
No - it's a new-region, new-story adventure. Dangerous wilds are part of the theme, but it plays like an original Pokemon journey rather than a kaizo challenge.
