Minecraft Rust Edition - The Horizon Project
"Minecraft Rust Edition" is what players call Horizon: the Java client and game logic rebuilt in Rust, verified against vanilla by 281 differential harnesses.
Open source ยท MIT~3x FPSLinux/macOS/WindowsNot affiliated with Mojang
Horizon rebuilds Minecraft: Java Edition 26.3 in Rust - same inputs, identical outputs, roughly triple the frame rate. It contains no Minecraft code or assets: you need your own legally bought copy of Java Edition installed.
How it works
- Uses your own copy - Horizon builds resources from the Minecraft files on your machine; it never downloads game files
- Differential-tested - each subsystem is scored against vanilla until outputs match
- Native builds - Linux, macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows
Limits to know
- Java mods do not run - Forge/NeoForge/Fabric jars are out; Horizon has its own mod system
- Not official - no Mojang or Microsoft affiliation
- Prep needs Java 25 - only for the one-time data-generation step
