Kyty PS5 Emulator (KytyPS5)
KytyPS5 is a free, open-source PlayStation 5 translation layer written in C++. It runs on Windows and Linux, with experimental macOS support, and can already boot 2D and 3D PS5 titles built on Unreal Engine, Unity and custom engines.
Two different projects share the name. KytyPS5/KytyPS5 is the actively developed PS5 translation layer with weekly releases — this is the one most people mean. InoriRus/Kyty is the older, mostly dormant PS4/PS5 emulator it was forked from. Download builds only from the GitHub releases page above; there is no official website installer.
System requirements
KytyPS5 translates PS5 calls to your native system rather than emulating the CPU, so hardware demands are modest — but a Vulkan 1.3 GPU is mandatory.
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 v1803+, a current Linux distro, or macOS on Apple Silicon (experimental) |
| CPU | 64-bit x86 processor. On Mac it runs under Rosetta 2 |
| GPU | Vulkan 1.3 capable with current drivers. On macOS, Vulkan comes from the bundled MoltenVK |
| Game files | You must supply your own legally dumped PS5 game files — the project ships no games or system software |
Install in 4 steps
There is no setup wizard. A release is a zip you unpack and run.
-
1
Grab the newest release for your OS
On the releases page pick
Windows-x64.zip,Linux-x86_64.tar.gzor themacOS-x86_64.zipasset from the most recent dated tag. Builds ship several times a month. -
2
Extract and update your GPU driver
Unzip anywhere (avoid paths with special characters). Before the first run, install the newest graphics driver — outdated Vulkan drivers are the top cause of black screens.
-
3
Launch and point it at your game dump
Open the emulator and load a decrypted PS5 game file from your own dump. On macOS, run under Rosetta 2 if the app refuses to start.
-
4
Check the compatibility list before judging
If a title fails to boot, look it up in the community compatibility list — many games are tagged "in game", "logo only" or "doesn't boot" with per-build notes.
What actually works right now
As of October 2026 the compatibility database covers 330+ titles with community test reports across Windows, Linux and macOS.
Boots to gameplay
A growing list of 2D and 3D titles reach "in game" status, including Unreal Engine 4/5 and Unity builds. Smaller indie titles tend to work best.
Partial
Many AAA games boot to the logo or menus, then crash. Graphical glitches and freezes are common even in playable titles.
Not yet
Big first-party releases mostly fail to boot. There is no network play, and audio/video edge cases remain in some engines.
Common problems
Black screen or instant crash on boot
Update your GPU driver first — KytyPS5 needs Vulkan 1.3. On laptops, force the app onto the dedicated GPU instead of integrated graphics.
Is Kyty PS5 a virus?
The GitHub builds are safe and built by CI. Random reupload sites bundling "Kyty emulator" with installers are the risk — use the releases page only.
Is downloading it legal?
The emulator itself is free open-source software and legal to download. It does not ship games or PS5 system files; you are responsible for using only game files you obtained legally from your own console.
Mac or Linux build won't open
macOS support is experimental: it only works on Apple Silicon through Rosetta 2 with MoltenVK. On Linux, make sure your Vulkan driver (not just OpenGL) is installed — vulkaninfo should list your GPU.
This is early-stage software. Expect crashes, visual bugs and low frame rates in many titles. Development happens on the project's Discord, and behavior can change significantly between builds — if a game matters to you, check the compatibility list for your exact title before downloading.
