Short version: raise Cool to 9, buy the Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree, then equip a Power pistol or Power revolver in each hand. Both guns fire together but each deals 37.5% less damage — the support perks below close that gap.

Unlock it in five steps

  1. 1
    Update to 2.5

Dual wielding is part of the free Edgerunners 2 update — it works on a base-game save and does not require Phantom Liberty.

  2. 2
    Push Cool to level 9

The Double Trouble node sits at Cool 9 in the Cool attribute tree. Anything below that and the perk stays locked.

  3. 3
Spend a Perk Point on Double Trouble

Rank 1 enables the second weapon slot. A second point buys Rank 2 (Heywood Hurricane) — worth taking early.

  4. 4
    Equip two compatible guns

In your weapon inventory, hold the equip prompt on a Power pistol or revolver to open the secondary slot and slot a second handgun.

  5. 5
    Fire both at once

Hold fire to shoot both weapons simultaneously; aim to tighten recoil and spread. Iconic weapons keep their special effects when dual-wielded.

What Double Trouble actually does

Two ranks, one Perk Point each. The 37.5% per-gun penalty is the number that scares people — you are still firing two weapons, and the support perks turn it into a net gain.

RankEffect
Rank 1Enables dual-wielding. Each weapon deals -37.5% damage. Aiming reduces recoil and bullet spread by 15%. Both weapons fire simultaneously.
Rank 2Unlocks Heywood Hurricane: both guns auto-fire for 1 second with +50% bullet spread, and ammo spent on hits is refunded. Replaces Quick Melee Attack.
Weapon rules: only Power-category pistols and revolvers work — Smart pistols, Tech pistols, SMGs, shotguns and melee cannot be slotted. You can mix a Power pistol with a Power revolver freely.

The four support perks

These feed the dual wield build — take them after both Double Trouble ranks.

PerkEffect
Two Right HandsHip-firing dual wield costs -25% stamina; aiming cuts recoil and bullet spread a further 20%.
Keep 'Em Comin'+40 stamina after a dual-wield kill, plus +20 more per Triple Tequila stack.
Triple Tequila+10% Mitigation Chance for 15s after a dual-wield kill, stacking 3 times. Heywood Hurricane consumes stacks for +15% damage each (up to +45%).
Splash of Love+50% fire rate for Heywood Hurricane; +1 second duration at max Triple Tequila stacks.

Building around it — the cyberpunk pistol build that works

For a level 50-60 dual wield build, Cool and Technical Ability carry the load, with Reflexes and Body behind them.

Attributes

Cool 20 and Technical Ability 20 first; Body and Reflexes to 18-20 after. Cool feeds the whole handgun perk line — Focus, Head to Head, Deadeye, Run 'N' Gun.

Weapons

Two Iconic Power pistols is the popular ceiling — both iconics keep their effects at once (dual La Chingona Dorada is the community favorite pair). Any two Power handguns work while you hunt them.

Playstyle

Hip-fire into crowds to build Triple Tequila stacks, then spend them on Heywood Hurricane for the burst window — with Splash of Love it becomes a one-second delete button.

FAQ

Can you dual wield in Cyberpunk 2077 without Phantom Liberty?

Yes. Double Trouble is base-game content from the free Update 2.5 — the expansion is not required.

What are cyberpunk power pistols?

"Power" is one of the three weapon categories (Power, Tech, Smart). Power pistols and Power revolvers are the only handgun types Double Trouble accepts — check the weapon card for its category.

Why can't I slot a second weapon?

Three common reasons: Double Trouble not purchased yet, the second gun is not a Power pistol/revolver, or you're on a pre-2.5 version of the game.

Is a cyberpunk dual wield build worth it over a single pistol?

Two guns at -37.5% each still out-damage one gun, and dual iconics stack effects. It costs several perk points to feel smooth, so it shines mid-to-late game rather than at Cool 9 the moment it unlocks.

How do I get the Heywood Hurricane move?

Buy Double Trouble Rank 2. It replaces your quick melee attack — trigger it and both guns auto-fire for 1 second, refunding ammo on hits.
