FAQ
What's the difference between hiragana and katakana?
Same sounds, different characters. Hiragana writes native Japanese words and grammar; katakana writes foreign loanwords. Learn hiragana first - every beginner resource assumes it.
What are dakuten and combos?
Dakuten are voiced versions (か ka → が ga, は ha → ば ba, ぱ pa). Combos are small ゃ/ゅ/ょ contractions (き + ゃ → きゃ kya) used in words like Tokyo (とうきょう).
Why does the quiz accept "si" and "hu"?
Some romanization systems write し as si and ふ as hu. The quiz accepts the common alternates - answer however you learned it.
