How a turn works

The whole combat system fits in three rules. Once they click, the game becomes about sequencing.

  1. 1
Light Strikes build, Final Strikes spend

Every hero has a class resource - Faith for the Cleric, Chill for the Ghost, Blood for the Vampire. Light Strikes are free and generate it; Final Strikes are the finishers that cash it in for big damage or effects. A turn where you spend at zero resource is a wasted turn.

  2. 2
Skills have limited charges per run

You can't spam your best skill through all ten floors. Charges refill at sanctuaries and through certain relics, so save finishers for elites and the boss, and clear trash with basics.

  3. 3
Burst orbs are a second meter

Hits fill Burst orbs; a full set lets you unleash a burst for a damage spike. Timing a burst on a boss phase is usually the difference between winning and bleeding out.

The three demo heroes

HeroResourcePlaystyleGood first pick?
ClericFaith (holy light)Sustain. Heals and smites scale with Faith; forgiving against burst damage, slower against armored enemies.Yes - easiest
GhostChill (frost)Control. Stacks Chill to slow and freeze; strongest when you can set up over a few turns, fragile when rushed.Second run
VampireBlood (lifesteal)Aggression. Trades HP for damage and drains it back; the highest ceiling in the demo and the easiest to overextend with.Once you know the floors

Floor-by-floor tips for the Catacombs

Routing

Pick the path, not just the fight

Each floor offers branches: elites drop better loot, events can hand you a relic or a curse, mini-games are free value if you're healthy, sanctuaries refill charges. Take a sanctuary before the floor-10 boss whenever one is offered on 8 or 9.

Loot

Unidentified and cursed items

Unidentified gear is a gamble - reveal it at a sanctuary if you can wait, equip blind if you're desperate. Cursed items are usually strong with a drawback; read the drawback before an elite, not during.

Meta

Dying is progress

Runs leave an echo and feed the talent tree. Three or four short deaths with different talent picks beat one careful run. The Hero's Echo bonus means a hero you've lost with comes back slightly stronger.

Runes

Slot runes toward your resource

Runes that generate or conserve your class resource outperform flat damage early, because they turn more turns into Final Strike turns.

Save note: the demo stores progress in this browser. Clearing site data or switching browsers resets it, and demo progress does not transfer to the paid version.

Demo vs the full Echodelve

FAQ

Is the Echodelve demo the same as the full game's first dungeon?

Yes - the Catacombs in the demo are the complete first dungeon, including its boss, not a cut-down slice. What you're missing is hero variety, the other eleven dungeons and the camp systems.

How long is a run?

A full ten-floor clear takes 10-20 minutes; a death on floor 4 takes three. That's by design - the game is built around many short runs that each leave an echo.

Does the demo work on phones?

Yes. It's a portrait-layout game with tap controls, so it plays well on a phone screen. Use the fullscreen button above on mobile for the most room.

What is Buriedbornes, and how close is this?

Buriedbornes is a Japanese mobile dungeon RPG built around 1v1 turn-based fights, skill charges and brutal randomness. Echodelve borrows that skeleton - one enemy at a time, charges, meaningful loot gambles - with a pixel-art look, a resource-and-finisher skill model and a meta-progression that rewards dying.
