How to defuse the bomb in Counter-Strike 2: hold E on the C4, 10 seconds without a kit or 5 seconds with one, against a 40-second fuse. Calculator below for whether you still have time.
The only numbers that matter: the C4 explodes 40 seconds after the plant beep. Defusing takes 10.0s by hand or 5.0s with a Defuse Kit ($400). So your hard deadlines from the plant beep are 30.0s without kit and 35.0s with kit. Releasing the defuse resets all progress to zero.

How to defuse, step by step
- 1Get close to the bomb
Walk up to the planted C4 until you're in interaction range — roughly arm's length. You can't defuse from across the site.
- 2Hold the Use key
Press and hold E (the default Use key). A circular progress bar appears. Let go for any reason and progress resets to zero — there is no partial defuse.
- 3Survive the full channel
10 seconds without kit, 5 with. You can't shoot while defusing — teammates or a smoke must cover you.
The mind games

| Fake defuse | Tap E for a split second — the defuse sound plays globally and usually baits the hiding T into peeking. Be ready to fight, not to finish. |
| Half-defuse fake | Start a real defuse, release early to take the fight, then re-defuse from zero. The sound cue still pressures the T into a mistake. Note: progress does NOT carry — you restart the full channel. |
| Ninja defuse | Smoke the site, defuse inside it while the Ts spray blindly. Works best with a kit (5s) and when enemies don't know you're on site yet. |
| Stick the defuse | "Sticking it" = committing to the full channel even while being shot. If the defuse would finish before you die, it's often correct — dying after a completed defuse still wins the round. |

Does defuse progress carry over if I stop?
No — release the Use key or get interrupted and the bar resets to zero. "Half-defuse then retake" is a psychological trick, not saved progress.
Can you defuse while shooting?
No — you're locked into the defuse channel and can't fire. Cover comes from teammates, smokes or the fake-out mind game.
Is the defuse sound the same for fakes?
Yes — tapping the bomb plays the identical global sound, which is exactly why the fake defuse works as bait.
