Yet Another Zombie Survivors
Unlock the Ranger at Survival Level 175
Ranger is a permanent meta-progression unlock tied to Survival Level 175. The fastest path is farming Cash with the right multipliers, then skipping upgrades once your build is online so leftover XP converts into money.
- Unlock: Survival Level 175
- Currency: Cash (auto-saved)
- Best mode: Hardcore D3, Dead Terminal
- Ranger kit: Crossbow + animal companions
What you are actually grinding
Survival Level is the permanent meta track that feeds the General / Training skill tree. It fills from Cash picked up during runs, and progress saves between runs automatically. Ranger unlocks the moment you hit 175, no special challenge or boss kill required, just the Cash total.
The catch is that higher Survival Levels demand more Cash per point, and your Team Level raises that threshold. So the grind is really about maximizing Cash-per-minute while keeping the per-level cost as low as possible.
The efficient path to 175
-
Max permanent Cash boosts first
Put early Training Points into the Universal Income upgrade in the General skill tree (Charisma column). It raises base money pickup values, which compounds with every multiplier you stack later. Spend points instead of hoarding, because lowering the Cash-per-level formula pays off immediately.
-
Stack the highest Cash multipliers you can survive
Run the hardest combination of map, mode, and difficulty you can reliably finish:
- Difficulty 3 (D3) roughly doubles Cash and Specialization.
- Hardcore mode adds another ~1.5x on top.
- Later maps, especially Dead Terminal, give better base Cash than early ones.
Community consensus: Dead Terminal Hardcore D3 is the best Cash-per-minute once you are strong enough. Endless on a comfortable map is safer for long sessions but lower efficiency than short high-multiplier Hardcore runs.
-
Build for survival and Cash skips, not maximum power
A durable, low-maintenance team lets you focus on movement and pickups. A strong reported comp:
- Engineer (leader) + Tank + SWAT (or similar ability-heavy durable comps).
- Engineer's Plasma weapon plus Energy Shield (Sub-Zero evolution) and drones give strong crowd control.
Aim for just enough power to clear the run, then skip most level-ups, military training, and extra items once your core kit is online. Skipping converts potential XP into Cash. Rescue SOS survivors for the Cash bonus when convenient, or skip the third if it keeps your run clean.
-
Equip Cash and XP stacking items
Use banishes and rerolls to hunt these early. They stack for large bonuses (players report 10 to 42 percent or more extra Cash):
- Badges: Growth, Thief, Levelling.
- Items: Quick Buck, Farming Tools, Omnigeode, Emerald Gem.
-
Structure each run for Cash flow
- Open the run getting core weapons and abilities online quickly.
- After that, prioritize magnets, movement, and Cash pickups while kiting.
- In Endless / Endurance, players report 20 to 35+ Survival Levels per solid 50 to 90 minute run at higher difficulties once geared. Short Hardcore runs can net 7 to 8+ efficiently.
- Cash carries over, so even partial runs advance you.
-
Track and iterate
Check your Survival Level and remaining Cash to next point on the main menu or Camp hub. Repeat high-multiplier runs. Completing other content (achievements, map modes, character ranks) helps indirectly by unlocking better badges, items, and maps.
Key decision points
Safe long runs vs. high-multiplier short runs
If you are dying early, drop difficulty or switch to Endless on an easier map until your General tree and characters are stronger. High D3 Hardcore is best only when you can finish consistently.
Solo/duo vs. full squad
Fewer survivors can mean more Cash from skips and liberates. A full strong squad is better for survival on high difficulty. Pick based on what kills your runs more often, damage or starvation.
Spend points now or bank for thresholds
Spend to lower the Cash-per-level formula and unlock useful nodes, especially income and survival. Points are refundable, so do not hoard them.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Playing low-difficulty or early maps exclusively. Multipliers matter a lot at higher levels.
- Taking every level-up and upgrade instead of skipping for Cash once your build is viable.
- Ignoring Cash badges, items, and Universal Income.
- Spreading Training Points in ways that inflate Team Level (and thus Cash thresholds) without benefit.
- Quitting runs just short of the next level. Progress saves, but finishing strong runs is more efficient.
The short version
Load into your highest sustainable multiplier run, max Universal Income, equip Cash badges and items, get your build online, then skip upgrades so leftover XP becomes Cash. Ranger unlocks automatically at Survival Level 175 and brings her crossbow and animal companions into future runs.
