Warlord Awaji: Horseback Archery Bows and Arrow Types
Horseback archery in Warlord Awaji. Practice at the Yabusame track WSW of spawn, kill and loot enemy archers for ammo, and switch between heavy, light, and fire arrows by situation.
Goal: Stay effective on horseback without running dry mid-fight. You have limited arrows, the bow is powerful but ammo-hungry. The winning loop is kill enemy archers, loot their arrows, switch types based on the situation, especially fire and heavy.
1Practice at the Yabusame Track First
- 1Spawn in the instant action or demo map and head WSW from the spawn point.
The Yabusame (horseback archery) track is there. Use it to practice shooting while moving at speed before jumping into a full battle.
- 2Equip a bow (Yumi is commonly used by testers) and check your current arrow type and remaining count.
Shown bottom-right. Start with heavy arrows for general use.
2Kill and Loot Enemy Archers for Ammo
- 1Prioritize enemy archers as your first targets.
Kill one, then loot the body for more arrows. Testers treat this like vampire farming. One good shot on an archer often pays for several more shots.
- 2Stay mounted and keep moving.
Enemy archers will keep shooting at long range even after you leave the main fight. Use the horse's speed to kite, loot, and reposition rather than standing still.
- 3When ammo gets low (one or two shots left), stop spraying and hunt the next archer.
Do not waste shots on melee troops.
3Switch Arrow Types by Situation
Heavy Arrows Default
Default choice testers default to for raw stopping power. Use for reliable single-target damage and when you are unsure.
Light Arrows Looted
What enemy archers often use. They fly differently and have less punch. Useful when that is what you have looted.
Fire Arrows High Payoff
Switch to these when you can land hits. They set targets on fire and can wipe groups if they connect. Testers noted: if you get the fire arrows, you kill everybody if you hit them.
Key Decision Points
- Heavy vs Fire. Use heavy for reliable single-target damage and when you are unsure. Switch to fire the moment you have a clear shot at clustered or high-value targets. Fire has higher payoff per hit but you still have to actually land it.
- Loot now or fight now. If you are low on arrows, peel off to kill and loot an isolated archer even if it means leaving the main melee for 10 to 15 seconds. Running dry mid-charge is worse than a short detour.
- Stay on horse or dismount. Stay mounted for the Yabusame-style play and mobility. Dismount only if you need to pick up a dropped bow or finish a tight melee.
Common Mistakes
- Treating the bow like an unlimited weapon and dumping your last arrows into the first group you see.
- Ignoring enemy archers because they are just ranged. They are your ammo source.
- Standing still or riding in a straight line while enemy archers have line of sight. They shoot from surprising distances.
- Not switching arrow types at all and wondering why fire or heavy would have been better.
