Goal: Clear rubble that blocks the only path during timed chases. Keep the rusty spoon equipped and dig while sprinting, often while carrying a baby or after attaching a lever. Players keep dying because they open inventory mid-chase, crouch at the wrong moment, or stop moving to click. The game launched September 7, 2026. The developer already cut some dirt piles in the baby chase and fixed janky crouch there. If you last played before that patch, update first.

0Controls to Lock In Before Any Chase

Tab
Inventory. Do not open it once a chase starts.
Spoon
Equip the rusty spoon before you trigger the sequence.
L-Click
Dig or smash rubble and hit rats.
E
Pick up baby, lever, key, notes.
Ctrl
Crouch or crawl. The BB chase patch fixed crouch jank. Still do not crouch unless the tunnel forces it.
Crank
Hand-crank generators light rooms. Monsters hesitate in light.
Spark tip: Strike metal or hard surfaces with the spoon for a spark flash if you need a split-second look ahead.

When to Dig vs When to Run

  • 1
Dig only piles that actually block the tunnel.

Extra clicks waste the time the creature needs to grab you. If a pile is optional or already thinned by the patch, sprint past.

  • 2
If a generator is nearby, crank first, then run.

Light buys seconds. The spoon does not kill the big things.

1Sequence 1: Baby (BB) Chase in the Caves

1The One Players Call Impossible

You grab the baby, then a large creature pursues while rubble sits in the tunnels.

  • 1
Equip the spoon and leave inventory closed.
  • 2
Grab the baby with E and start moving immediately.

Do not look back to check.

  • 3
    Hold forward the whole time.

Left-click only when a dirt pile is directly in front of you.

  • 4
Stay standing unless the geometry forces a crawl.

Post-patch crouch is less sticky, but standing is still faster.

  • 5
Keep clicking through each pile without releasing movement.

Multiple clicks clear faster than one long hold.

  • 6
Do not open Tab to confirm the spoon is equipped.

If you dropped it, you already failed that attempt.

Common mistake: Opening Tab mid-run because a review said "fighting with TAB." Tab is inventory, not dig. Dig is left click with the spoon already out.
If you still get grabbed after the dirt-removal patch: You are stopping between piles. Treat it as one continuous sprint with clicks on contact.

2Sequence 2: Green Lamp, Lever, Two Doors

2Second-Area Spike

Attach a lever, smash rocks, run two doors, grab a key while chased.

  • 1
Find and attach the lever before you commit to the sprint.

Do not start the chase missing the attachment.

  • 2
    Spoon equipped, inventory closed.
  • 3
Crank any available light first if the room has a generator.
  • 4
Sprint the planned line: rocks, then door 1, then door 2, then key location.

Memorize the key spot on a failed run so you do not search while the creature is on you.

  • 5
Left-click rubble the instant it fills the screen.

Do not stop to line up a perfect swing.

  • 6
    Through the doors, keep moving.

Closing or passing them is the point. Standing in a doorway gets you grabbed.

Common mistake: Hunting the key as if it were a quiet exploration room. The key is on the run path. Learn the room once, then execute without looking around.

Everyday Digging (Not During a Chase)

  • 1
Left-click loose earth to open side rooms and notes.
  • 2
Smash rats with the same click.

They sometimes hide items they were eating.

  • 3
Use sparks on metal if the lights are already dying.
  • 4
Crouch (Ctrl) only for vents and low rubble, not as a default.

Mistakes That Keep Killing People

If a chase still feels unfair after the September 9 dirt and crouch hotfix: Reset the encounter and commit to never releasing W and never touching Tab until you are through the last pile. That is the method players who cleared it are using.
