Scavland
Scavland Death and Backpack Recovery Guide
Death in Scavland is a corpse run, not permadeath. You respawn at the hospital with a map marker on your body. Stash stays safe. Some equipped gear can stay. Here is how to get your backpack back without dying twice.
Corpse run, not wipe
Map marker on body
Stash = bank
The #1 mistake: Leaving the hospital with no backup gun, ammo, or water. That is why people feel they "reset." Stash is the bank. Backpack is risk. Always park backup gear before you leave on a run.
What Happens
When You Die
1
You respawn at the hospital, not at the death spot.
2
A marker appears on the map for the death location, dead body, and dropped loot. Use that marker. Do not wander hoping you remember the spot.
3
You lose some of your gear, not the whole account. Dev wording: you die and lose some of your gear, then go retrieve the rest if you want.
4
Safehouse and hospital stash is the real bank. All stash locations share the same inventory. Put backup guns, meds, ammo, and water there before you leave.
5
Explorer mode is the softer version. Explorer keeps your equipment on death, but not all backpack items. Autosave is on. Use this if the corpse run is wrecking your first hours.
Recovery Loop
How to Recover Your Backpack
Before You Leave (Every Run)
1
Open stash at hospital or safehouse. Park extra guns, ammo, meds, food, water. Take only a cheap kit plus empty backpack space for loot.
2
If you are still learning routes, play Explorer so equipped guns and armor are less likely to vanish.
When You Die
3
Do not immediately reload unless you are save-scumming on purpose. The intended loop is: accept death, hospital, marker, recover.
4
Check inventory at the hospital. See what you kept. Craft or pull a fallback pistol or shotgun, a stack of ammo, one med, water.
5
Open the map. Find the death marker. Plan a short path, not the same deep route that killed you.
6
Travel light. The recovery trip is only to pick up the bag and leave. Do not loot extra rooms on the way in.
7
At the marker, loot the body or backpack, dump junk if overweight, and walk it straight back to stash.
If the area is still hot: Cheap starter loot, abandon and rebuild from stash. Good gun or full bag, restock at hospital then corpse-run, do not go naked. Night, mutants, or no ammo, wait for daylight or take a safer approach. Unsuppressed gunfire and flashlights are how people die twice on the same bag.
After You Recover
8
Stash the recovered bag immediately. Do not start a second expedition wearing the recovered kit plus new loot.
Quick Reference
Decision Table
| Situation | Better Choice |
|---|---|
| First hours, keep dying | Explorer mode + stash a full cheap kit |
| Valuable bag in a bad spot | Restock at hospital, then corpse-run. Do not go naked. |
| Bag is junk or spawn-box loot | Skip it. You will farm more. |
| You just F5-saved before the fight | Reload if you want zero loss. That is what Steam players do on launch day. |
| You died and then died again on the way back | Stop. Rebuild a kit in stash. The second death is how people feel "stuck." |

Common Mistakes
What Gets You Killed Twice
x
Leaving the hospital with no backup gun, ammo, or water. That is why people feel they "reset."
x
Treating backpack as the bank. Stash is the bank. Backpack is risk.
x
Trying to finish the original loot route while recovering the body. Go in, grab, get out.
x
Assuming Explorer keeps everything. It keeps equipment; backpack items can still drop.
x
Ignoring the map marker and searching by memory. The marker is there for a reason.
