Core Concept
What League Style Changes
League Style sets the league rules for your career - conference alignments, bowl schedules, seeding rules, and available teams - to match a specific historical period from 2022 through 2026. The 2026 style is free for all players; earlier years require the Unlimited Version (included in Apple Arcade's College+).
Key: League Style is set when creating a new career. It's on the far right of the New Career screen. You cannot change it mid-career without starting a new one.
Step-by-Step
How to Set Up League Style
1
Update Retro Bowl College or open College+. Make sure you're on the latest version so the League Style feature appears.
2
Start a new career. On the New Career screen, look for the League Style option on the far right.
3
Select your preferred style or progression mode. Choose from:
- A specific year style (e.g., 2022-2023, 2023, 2024, or 2026)
- Calendar mode (auto-syncs to your career year)
- Autoroll mode (cycles through years, prompts each season)
4
Complete career creation. Pick your team and finish the rest of the setup. The league will load with your chosen style's conferences, bowl schedule, and team roster.
5
Respond to season-end prompts (depending on mode). In Autoroll, you'll get a message asking if you want to change styles. In Calendar, the style auto-advances with your career year. In Fixed mode, it loops the same year with no prompts.
Key Decision
Three Progression Modes Explained
Fixed Year
Locks one historical setup (e.g., 2022-2023) permanently. Loops the same conferences and bowl schedule every season. No prompts to change.
Best for: players who want one consistent historical look forever
Calendar
Auto-syncs the league style to your career year. As your career advances, the style progresses through 2022 â 2026 in sequence. After the latest style, it repeats that one.
Best for: realistic "time passes and realignments happen on schedule" experience
Autoroll
Cycles through years/styles independently of your career year. At the end of every season, you get a prompt asking if you want to change. The style year can drift from the calendar year.
Best for: players who want cycling variety with annual override option
Quick pick: Want pure historical lock-in â Fixed. Want automatic progression that stays synced â Calendar. Want cycling + annual choice â Autoroll.

Avoid These
Common Mistakes
â
Assuming every style requires Unlimited. The 2026 style is free for all players. Only earlier years (2022-2025) require the Unlimited Version or Apple Arcade College+.
â
Confusing Calendar and Autoroll. Calendar stays synced to your career year and auto-progresses (then repeats latest). Autoroll cycles independently and prompts every season - the style year can drift from the calendar year.
â
Starting a career without checking the League Style option. It's on the far right of the New Career screen - easy to miss. Once the career is created, you can't change the base mode without starting over.
â
Expecting prompts on a fixed-year selection. Fixed mode just loops the same year with no prompts. If you want annual choice, use Autoroll instead.
