PSO2 NGS: Strengthened Dark Falz Vael Boss Strategy
Complete phase-by-phase guide to clearing the Strengthened Dark Falz Vael fight in PSO2 NGS Eclipse Stars. Covers BP requirements, counter windows, wall placement, pillar destruction order, and the mistakes that cause party wipes.
Clear the high-difficulty permanent quest featuring Strengthened Dark Falz Vael. The fight has strict failure conditions (5 total party KOs or 15-minute time limit), heavy damage from un-counterable red/yellow attacks, phase transitions with walls and beams, and DPS checks that punish poor positioning or low output. Players want reliable clears for weekly Star Gems, 13-star Cres gear drops, and upgrades.
Pre-Fight Preparation
Phase-by-Phase Strategy
Run straight ahead to the slanted floor area after the spawn movie for pre-positioned attacks. Stay mostly in front of Vael for counter opportunities.
- Double claw slash to charged claw: Big gap on 3rd hit. Counter the charged claw. Counter
- Double spin: Stay mobile, counter the recovery. Counter
- Elbow sweeps: Often mid-combo. Watch for the follow-up. Counter
- Close to far shockwave: Multi-hit. Use long evasion if unsure. Counter
- Tail slam: Aerial cue, slam with outward waves. Easy front counter timing. Counter
- Laser (~85% HP): Un-counterable. Throw cube walls near center to block, then counter the follow-up shockwave. No Counter
Starts with an all-around un-counterable laser. Pick up cubes and form triangle walls (one player can cover with multiples, or assign roles). Block the laser, then punish Vael's center return.
- Charged claw + 2 homing lasers: Counter each, stay mobile but predictable. Counter
- Spin + 3 homing bits: Timed lasers and charges. Counter the gaps between attacks. Counter
- Dive: Charge, 2 lined lasers, then un-counterable dive circle with explosion. Counter the explosion for damage. Counter explosion
- Explosion circles: Often overlaps with spins and claws. Stay aware of overlapping patterns.
- 4 lined lasers to Vael beam (~50% HP): Time your dodge after body glow, then counter the center shockwave. No Counter on beam
Four pillars spawn around the arena. Destroy them in clockwise order starting from bottom-right: BR to BL to TL to TR. Vael continues attacking with counterable and un-counterable circle AoEs plus cube and wall spawns during this phase.
- Circle AoEs: Mix of counterable and un-counterable. Identify the color cue before responding.
- Cube and wall spawns: Can be used for cover but do not get trapped behind them.
- Pillar destruction: Team focus fire on each pillar in order. Dodge or punish Vael's attacks while breaking pillars.
Key Decision Points
- Gear vs. Skill: If your BP is below 4630, upgrade weapons, armor, and skills first. Practice alone will not fix a DPS check failure. If your BP is high but you keep dying, prioritize learning counter timing over evasion.
- Party vs. Solo: Party runs make wall placement and pillar destruction easier with role assignment. Solo is viable with strong builds like Slayer/Techer but requires perfect pattern knowledge.
- Food choice: Firepower food if you are surviving consistently and need more DPS. Tankier food with HP, PP, and resist if you are learning the fight and dying often. Always position in front of Vael for counters unless it is a wall phase.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Over-dodging. Dodging everything means missing damage windows. Counters are your primary DPS source. Learn the patterns and counter instead of evading.
- Bad wall placement in Phase 2. Walls spread out or in the wrong shape cause multi-hit wipes from the laser. Form triangle walls near center, and coordinate with your party.
- Ignoring BP and gear requirements. Handout gear will not cut it. Upgrade your weapons and armor to meet the DPS checks, especially in Phase 3.
- Not using Stia R-Mag or team buffs. The +5% attack buff from Stia R-Mag and team Mag attack boost are free damage. Feed your R-Mag and activate buffs before the fight.
- Poor counter timing on multi-hits. Shockwaves are multi-hit attacks. Misjudging the timing on these gets you hit during the counter animation. Practice the rhythm in repeated runs.
- Forgetting phase triggers. The laser fires at specific HP percentages (~85%, ~70%, ~50%). Knowing these triggers lets you pre-position for walls and avoid getting caught in the open.
