Core Problem

NBA The Run is brand new (launched June 9, 2026) and players are chasing consistent Knockout wins. The 3v3 format rewards specific role combos - defense/steals, rim protection, and 3-point shooting - over pure star power. The community has already settled on two dominant squad builds.

Top Meta Lineups

#1 META Ant + AD + Wemby
Anthony Edwards Guard Best guard in the game - elite scoring output and great perimeter defense.
Anthony Davis Forward Two-way monster - fades on offense, crashes boards, guards multiple positions.
Victor Wembanyama Big Overall cheat code - best player in the game, elite blocks and rim protection.
#2 META SGA + Steph + Wemby
Shai G-A Guard Spam steals - elite perimeter defense and ball pressure every possession.
Stephen Curry Guard Spam 3s aggressively. Shoot with everyone when possible. Proven 32-0 streak pick.
Victor Wembanyama Big Block 3s and dominate inside. The anchor every top lineup needs.
Other Options

KD, LeBron, Luka, and Giannis are strong for fun/creator lineups. Once you have wins locked in, swap to your favorites for the casual NBA Street feel the game is built around.

The 3 Roles Every Lineup Needs

1
Guard / Perimeter Creator
Ant, SGA, Steph
Handles the ball, gets stops via steals, and scores efficiently. The engine of every possession.
2
Two-Way Forward / Big
Anthony Davis
Rebounds, switches defense across positions, stretches with mid-range/fades. The glue player.
3
Rim Protector
Wemby (consensus #1)
Blocks, alters shots, and finishes at the rim. Defense and boards win possessions in 3v3.

In-Game Execution

1
Set Up Your Squad

Unlock/access Knockout Solos or join friends in Squads. Focus on one balanced lineup first - don't spread unlocks thin early. Pick one of the two meta lineups above and stick with it for 5-10 games to learn the feel.

2
Play to Each Role's Strength
  • Spam steals with your guard on every defensive possession
  • Shoot 3s aggressively - only take 2s late in the shot clock
  • Use your big to block 3s and crash offensive boards
  • Mix playmaking, finishing, and defense - don't go one-dimensional
3
Adapt to Court Modifiers

Random court modifiers change the rules each game. Favor shooters (Steph) on open courts. Favor bigs (Wemby/AD) on tight courts or when modifiers boost inside play. Check the modifier before tip-off and adjust your rotations.

4
Build Your Unlock Priority

Earn XP and wins via Knockout modes. Unlock in this order: Wemby first (most impactful on both ends), then elite guards (Ant/SGA/Steph), then versatile forwards (AD). Don't unlock players you won't use.

Key Decision Points

Meta chase vs. fun lineup?
Meta wins more right now. Start with Ant/AD/Wemby or SGA/Steph/Wemby for quick wins and rank-up rewards. Once you have momentum, swap to Luka/LeBron/Giannis for the casual vibe the game is built for.
Big-heavy or guard-heavy?
Early consensus strongly favors 1-2 bigs with rim protection plus one elite guard. Pure small ball gets cooked by blocks and boards. Don't go all guards.
Who to unlock first?
Wemby is the highest priority unlock - he impacts every game on both ends. After him: elite guards (Ant/SGA/Steph), then versatile forwards (AD).

Common Mistakes

x
Ignoring defense and steals. Pure offense loses to spammy defensive opponents. Your guard needs to get stops, not just score.
x
Not shooting enough 3s or taking bad 2s. The 3-point line is your biggest scoring edge. Only take close 2s or dunks - mid-range 2s are inefficient.
x
Spreading unlocks too thin. Master 1-2 squads before diversifying. Knowing your lineup's strengths beats randomly picking new players every game.
x
Not adapting to court modifiers. Check the modifier before each game and adjust who you play through. The meta shifts when modifiers favor different roles.
x
Going all guards. Pure small ball lineups get dominated by rim protection and rebounding. Always have at least one big on the floor.
