Hollow Knight Silksong · Act 3
Final Boss Act 3 Guide - Lost Lace
How to beat Lost Lace, the true final boss of Act 3 in the Abyss - mask and needle prep, loadout picks, phase-by-phase punish windows, and the patience-first mindset that actually clears the fight.
Boss: Lost Lace
Difficulty: Hardest in game
Phases: 3
Recommended masks: 9-10
Core Goal
Lost Lace is widely called the hardest fight in the game - extremely fast, teleports that punish movement, multi-mask contact damage on every hit, long combos, and escalating phases that turn small mistakes into full wipes. Players routinely report hours or days of attempts. Community consensus: play slow and patient, prioritize not taking contact damage over greedy hits, stay relatively close (running/dashing away triggers her worst teleports), and learn specific punish windows.
Prep Before the Fight
- Aim for 9-10 masks. Even with 10 you can get comboed hard. Lower mask counts turn single mistakes into deaths.
- Needle at least mid-to-high tier. Hive Steel or better is preferred - you need damage per hit window to be meaningful.
- Recommended loadout: Hunter's or Evolved Hunter's Crest + Cogflies + Pollip Pouch + Injector Band + Multibinder + Magnetite Dice.
- Alternative: Wanderer's Crest (fast attacks to match her speed) with similar tools, saving Cogflies for phase 3.
- Other viable crests: Reaper, Architect (trap spam), or Shaman for longer range - all reported as successful by some players.
- High-value tools: Magnetite Dice, Multibinder/Injector Band, and Cogflies (passive damage) come up repeatedly. Save major tool use for later phases.
Key Decision Points
After a Hit or Move Start
Choose to stay close or make a small reposition. Dashing away is the #1 reported cause of "unfair" teleports straight into contact damage. Walk, short hop, or stay near her instead.
When She Parries (Pin Up)
Jump over/forward her, not away. This covers both ground and aerial ripostes and often gives free back hits during recovery.
Aggressive Needle vs Tools
Pure needle works if you treat it like a dance (1-2 hits max per window). Tools, especially Cogflies in phase 3, let you focus more on survival while dealing passive damage.
Heal Windows
Heal high (wall cling + double jump/float) or during long cast animations. Never try ground heals in corners - she teleports on you.
Phase-by-Phase Strategy
Overall Mindset
Spend early attempts pure-dodging to learn patterns and windows. Only add hits once you're not dying to contact. Never get greedy - 1-2 hits then reset.
1
Phase 1 - Standard Enhanced Kit + Void
Attacks available: Dive, Void Tendril, Triple Slash, Dash Attack (with tendril trails), Upward Slash, Guard/Parry.
- DiveShe burrows then emerges near you. Stay relatively still or make a small move - she does not spawn directly on top of you. Hit after she lands.
- Void TendrilHorizontal or angled. Jump + dash toward her and downslash for a free hit (similar to Pure Vessel feel). Or jump/float/heal if other hazards are up.
- Triple Slash / Dash2-3 lunges, tendrils on dash version. Jump over the first, float or double-jump the second. The third depends on your height - if airborne she may jump/dive; if grounded she may continue or tendril. Jump-heal or float during the first slash to clear the trail, then clawline/dash away from the upward follow-up.
- Parry / GuardHit it on purpose or react by jumping straight over her. You sail over the flurry and can hit her back during recovery. Jumping away gets you clipped by one of the two variants.
2
Phase 2 - Manic Laugh + Void Summons
Starts with a manic laugh. Adds void summons and alters Dive (now leaves tall tendrils at the exit point).
- Tendril Summon4 ground puddles grow into tall pillars. She is mostly stationary - close in early and hit freely, then stop before they fully rise and her next attack overlaps.
- Blob / Saw SummonShe levitates and spews sawblade eruptions. Stand directly under her (or next to her if grounded) and upslash. Blobs land to the sides. Step slightly aside so she doesn't drop on you at the end. One of the best long punish windows.
- Projectile SummonShimmering circles become blades. Just walk away from your starting spot (no dash/sprint/jump needed) - they are not strongly homing. Sneak a couple hits then walk.
3
Phase 3 - ~Half Health / 900 HP, Void Waves
She "dies," GMS collapses, void waves start. Everything is faster, windows shrink, and she denies some previous punishes. Deploy Cogflies here for passive damage while you focus on not dying.
- Void WavesTsunami from one side then the other while she is underground. Jump + double-jump + clawline/float over them. First pair has more delay; later ones come back-to-back from the opposite side. You can often heal high during the first.
- Star Summon4-5 shimmering air circles. Get clear - she does multi-slashes inside them for 3-mask damage.
- Earlier punishesKeep using blobs, tendril summons, post-dash, and post-parry windows but be stricter about exiting. Stay defensive and chip her down.
Ending
After the final blow she drops - pick her up and super-jump out when prompted for the true ending.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Dashing or running away after hits or when low - triggers teleports into contact damage (2 masks every time).
- Greedy 3+ hits or chasing every opening - she combos you for 6-10 masks.
- Ground healing in corners or while she's active.
- Ignoring audio cues for teleports and dives - visuals alone are too slow.
- Entering with low masks, weak needle, or zero passive tools.
- Tilting and queueing attempts back-to-back - take breaks between sessions.
Important
Patience and pattern recognition beat raw aggression here. Many players who switched to "hit only safe windows + survive" cleared it far faster than pure aggressive attempts. Treat early attempts as pattern-learning, not win attempts.
