Echoes of Aincrad Souls Boss Order
Optimal boss progression order for the first floor of Echoes of Aincrad. Follow the main quest sequence, prep for each fight, and avoid getting stuck on scaling difficulty.
The core challenge: Echoes of Aincrad gates bosses behind main quests, and Cardinal Rank increases scale enemy difficulty as you progress. Players who skip side content, ignore breakable parts, or rush into the next boss underleveled get stuck fast. Following the quest-gated boss sequence with proper prep for each fight's mechanics is the smoothest path through the first floor.
Recommended Boss Progression Order
-
Sentry GolemHow to fight: Block attacks and use Reversal or Parry Slash for openings. Stay mobile, all attacks are blockable. This fight teaches core combat timing before bigger encounters.
-
Illfang the Kobold LordHow to fight: Use Crush Attacks to break its shield first. Watch for kobold adds and manage them. Reduce HP to zero across 3 phases with heavy attacks on breakable parts. Do not let it recover between phases.
-
Snowcap BoarHow to fight: Flank the sides and back to avoid frontal freeze and slow effects. Hit blue-glowing body parts with heavy attacks to break them, which prevents the boss from healing and looping phases. Bring cold resistance items if available.
-
Glenspore GrizzlyHow to fight: Dodge glowing claw lunges and grab attacks. Use strong attacks to stun and create party openings. Stay behind the boss to minimize Burning status buildup. Iori distracts effectively here. Clear dust clouds by distancing before re-engaging.
-
Dire Strife WolfHow to fight: Monitor the status meter for Paralysis from electric skills. Bring extra heals and recovery items. Use status resistance gear. The wolf's electric attacks stack paralysis fast, so prevention matters more than curing it.
-
Wrathful ShrewmanHow to fight: Use light symbols and illumination to counter darkness and blind effects. Prioritize adds before focusing the main target. The Shrewman's blind mechanic can lock down your party if you ignore the adds.
-
Raging Boar and onwardHow to fight: Continue following the quest list. Break parts aggressively on every boss. If you are underleveled, grind Ark mini-bosses for XP before progressing. After Violet Fencer II, you get character creation and a Summons cutscene. Equip new gear from the inn chest before heading out.
Ark Bosses (Optional)
Ark mini-bosses are optional encounters found by interacting with pedestals in each area. They drop seals, unlock hidden paths, and provide XP for leveling between story bosses.
If you are underleveled for the next story boss (check the quest recommended level), grind Ark bosses first. They provide safe XP without advancing the story or triggering Cardinal Rank increases. Come prepared with full SP and partner synergy.
Key Decision Points
-
Difficulty and Death Game Mode Story or Normal for learning mechanics. Higher difficulties give better loot and XP but scale enemy aggression. Death Game mode has permadeath, so avoid it on your first run until you know every boss pattern.
-
Partner Choice Iori provides heals and tanking circles for survival on harder difficulties. Argo provides analyze and exploration support for story or normal mode. Switch partners based on the fight: Iori for sustain, Argo for info.
-
When to Grind Arks vs. Push Story If the next story boss is 2+ levels above you, stop and grind Ark bosses or side quests first. Cardinal Rank increases scale difficulty at story milestones, so entering a boss underleveled compounds the problem.
-
Post-Summons Gear Check After the Violet Fencer II quest and Summons cutscene, you get new gear in the inn chest. Equip it before leaving. Many players rush out and get destroyed by the next area's scaled enemies.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Ignoring breakable parts. Blue glows on bosses like Snowcap Boar indicate breakable parts. If you do not break them, the boss heals and loops phases, dragging out the fight.
- Frontal attacks on large bosses. You get grabbed, frozen, or burned. Always flank sides and back unless you are actively parrying.
- Skipping status preparation. Paralysis and blind effects from Wolf and Shrewman will ruin runs. Bring resistance items and recovery gear before those fights.
- Advancing Cardinal Rank without gear upgrades. Each story milestone can increase Cardinal Rank, which scales enemy difficulty. Check and upgrade gear after every major story event.
- Rushing past the Summons cutscene without re-equipping. The inn chest contains new gear that is critical for the next area. Do not leave town without opening it.
