Season 14 Context
Barbarian remains top 2 class despite survivability nerfs (Selig no longer immortal). Grandfather scaling buffs and weapon swap auto-casts keep Whirlwind and Ancients at the top. Tier rankings below are relative within Barbarian - SS is standout meta, C is struggling.
Build Tier List
SS
Whirlwind Barbarian
Speedfarmer / AoE / Versatile
Spin-to-win with massive screen clear, excellent mobility, and high crit scaling via Grandfather. Strong everywhere - speed farming and Pit 140+. Most popular and well-rounded build this season.
S
Minion Barbarian / Call of the Ancients
Pushing / Summoner / Tanky
Strong summon scaling with top PTR leaderboard clears. Excellent survivability and damage even after nerfs. Best choice for dedicated Pit pushing.
A
Flame Charge / Charge Barbarian
Mobility / Burst / Speed
High mobility charge playstyle with solid clear and bossing. Great for speed content and remains competitive post-changes.
Rend Barbarian
Bleed / DoT / Single + AoE
Reliable bleed damage that performs well across content types. Strong scaling and easier gearing than top-tier alternatives.
B
HotA (Hammer of the Ancients) / Earthquake
Burst / Bossing
Fun big-hit playstyle but less dominant in AoE and speed after meta shifts. Still viable for targeted boss content.
Frenzy Barbarian
Attack Speed / Frenzy Stacking
Fast basic attack focus with good clear speed but lower ceiling in high-end Pit pushing.
C
Mighty Maelstrom / Lunging Strike
Niche / Experimental
Situational or lower scaling. Decent for specific play scenarios but not meta-defining. Fine for casual content.
Top 3 Community Picks
1
Whirlwind
"Spin around and delete everything." Easiest on-ramp, most fun for casual to hardcore players. Great for both farming and pushing without thinking too hard.
2
Minion / Ancients
Best for high Pit pushing and tanky play. If you like summon builds or want the highest ceiling, this is the choice.
3
Charge variants
For players who want fast movement and burst damage. High mobility makes farming feel great even if the ceiling is slightly lower.
Key Season 14 Changes
- Melted Heart of Selig nerfed. No longer immortal. Resource-stacking still viable but you must learn boss mechanics and dodge attacks now.
- Grandfather scaling buffed. Significant boost for Whirlwind and all crit-based builds. Main reason SS tier stayed intact.
- Weapon swap auto-casts are mandatory. Use Steel Grasp on swap for vulnerability + Berserking uptime. Without this, buff maintenance feels painful.
- Freeze tech on Whirlwind is strong but risky. May get patched post-launch. Have a non-freeze backup variant ready.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Playing the old immortal Selig tank style. You die now. Learn the dodge patterns or build around the new resource mechanics instead.
- Skipping weapon swap setup. Auto-casts from weapon swap are how you maintain vulnerability and Berserking. Ignoring this kills your damage uptime.
- Rushing into Pit before material farming. Tempering and Masterworking require materials. Speed farm Torment 12 first to fuel your gearing.
- Judging builds at low Paragon. PTR testing at ~200 Paragon undervalues most builds. Full boards change scaling dramatically - trust community rankings over personal low-Paragon tests.
