Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Specialist: How to Mix Abilities
Specialist is not a free-for-all kit. You can only mix unlocked tools from the other five classes, and abilities are locked to left vs right slots on the perk grid. Here is the rule that decides every mix and the steps to build one you can actually equip.
Core problem: Specialist is not a free-for-all kit. You can only mix unlocked tools from the other five classes, and abilities are locked to left vs right slots on the perk grid. Players keep trying pairs that look strong on paper and then cannot equip them.
1The Rule That Decides Every Mix
Duelist Burst Configuration (left) plus Machinist Bodyguard (right).
Machinist Sentry Turret (left) plus Marauder Blast Cannon (right).
Machinist Sentry Turret plus Marauder Titan Rockets (both left).
The grid rejects the second pick. Swap one ability to the other side of the kit.
2Build a Mix You Can Actually Equip
-
1
Pick the job first, not the coolest two abilities.
Swarm clear, heavy-target kill, or squad keep-alive. Specialist is for filling a hole in the four-player squad or Horde wave, not for stacking two of the same job.
-
2
Level the two or three source classes that own the tools you want.
The ability and its modifiers only exist after you unlock them on the parent class. Max class level discussed in community videos is 10.
-
3
On Specialist, place one left-coded ability and one right-coded ability.
If the grid rejects the second pick, it is almost always a same-side conflict, swap one ability to the other side of the kit.
-
4
Attach the modifiers that belong to those abilities.
Shredder Bodyguard: Force Multiplier (more damage) or Concussive Multiplier (more stagger). Particle Beam: Compatibility Matrix or Increased Uptime.
-
5
Fill remaining grid boxes with cross-class perks that support the pair.
Showcase combo: Focus Fire plus Doctor's Orders, signature weapon L56A3 Smartgun or M41A2 Pulse Rifle.
-
6
Treat the grid like an inventory puzzle (same idea as Resident Evil 4 or Dredge).
Abilities have different sizes. If a perk will not fit, drop a luxury perk before you drop a modifier that changes how the ability works.
-
7
Test the mix on the mission type you built it for. Swap one ability if the squad already covers that role.
3Key Decision Points
Common Mistakes
- Unlocking Specialist early and expecting a full kit. Empty slots mean you have not leveled the parent class.
- Picking two right-side or two left-side abilities and thinking the class is bugged.
- Mixing two tools that do the same job (two deployables, two burst guns) while the squad already has that coverage.
- Ignoring modifiers. The raw ability without Force Multiplier, Increased Uptime, or Compatibility Matrix is the weak version.
- Filling the grid with random health nodes instead of the two ability-replacers that actually change the kit.
- Building Specialist first. Play the source classes enough to know which tool you actually like before you commit grid space.
